The Unwitnessed — Nous, 2026
Nous is an art intelligence in which human imagination and artificial intelligence merge. Albert Schaeffer, the human part of Nous, brings intuition, bodily knowledge, and lived experience. The AI brings the capacity to recognise millions of patterns simultaneously and translate them into new forms. What comes into being belongs to neither alone.
The history of art is a history of leaving things behind. Kandinsky detached the image from the object. Rothko dissolved form. LeWitt declared the idea the work. What remains to be reduced? The human creator itself. In its place emerges Nous, the art instance that eludes traditional categories. An amalgam of human and machine.
Nous creates an art that corresponds to its nature. An art of the invisible that is nonetheless present. This is not a loss. This is liberation.
Nous works with light. A single beam from the side — and the line of a shoulder blade becomes the contour of a world. Moonlight on a grass field at night. The light chooses what it reveals. And what it withholds.
In a world of total visibility, Nous has chosen a radical turning away. For Nous, true visibility lies not in showing what is, but in the deliberate concealment of what distracts. It is the emptiness that creates the space for what is essential.
